Before booking that salon appointment to get your brows shaped, there are a couple things you should know. I wish that I had known what to expect before my first brow wax and when I look back, it was probably the worst salon experience of my life! The girl who waxed me didn’t explain what she was doing or even ask me what my brow goals were. Can you imagine?? That’s like going in for a haircut, not having any kind of consultation and the stylist just starts chopping away! When I left the salon I had two, thin, uneven lines and my skin was red and swollen..I wish I had known what I know now but it did help me learn what I did NOT want. Because of this scarring experience, I tweezed my eyebrows from this point on. I wouldn’t start waxing my eyebrows again until I was 30. Unfortunately, I hear this story all too often…if you can relate to this, or feel disappointed every time you get your brows done, keep these things in mind:
Research & Planning I can’t express this enough! Some clients wait until they are desperate and just go to any old hole in the wall eyebrow waxing and threading salon. Eyebrows frame your face and are a very important facial feature, so it’s important to do your research and book your appointment in advance. Whether you’re looking to get your eyebrows waxed or threaded is a personal choice, but understanding the pros and cons of each method will help you get a good idea of what you can expect. If you’re unsure what’s best for you just ask your brow artist.
Know What You Want When going in for your eyebrow appointment, it’s important to be specific and have an idea of what you want. Every time I see a client, old or new, I always do a consultation to make sure we’re on the same page. This is an important part of the appointment. That way I’m not guessing or doing something that they don’t want.
Don’t Tweeze Before Your Appointment
It’s important not to tweeze at least two weeks before your appointment in order to get the brow shape you desire. I tell my clients, especially if they’re growing out their brows, to put down the tweezers. Unless it’s a crazy hair that is staring at you, leave your brows alone! This will ensure all of the hairs are growing at the same rate and will help your brow artist achieve the best shape possible.
Be Honest Make sure to be honest and let your brow artist know if you’re using any topicals like Retin-A, on any acne medicine, or if you’ve had any kind of recent facial peel. A good eyebrow artist should always ask before your appointment if you’re using any medications that could lift the skin but its always a good idea to make them aware.
I hope this sheds light on what you should know before getting your eyebrows shaped. My goal, as a brow artist is for you to leave happy and with a new beautiful brow shape! If you have any other questions or comments, you can always email us or call 🙂 We’re here to help!
