I get asked almost daily how to prepare for a brow waxing appointment. Some preparations for the skin need to be made days and sometimes weeks before. I recommend booking your waxing appointment at least a month in advance, so your skin is ready and healthy. Below are some pointers on how to prepare your skin before your appointment so you can have the best result!
EYEBROW WAXING TIPS:
First Tip – The first thing to do in order to prepare for your appointment is to make sure your hair is long enough. Ideally, your hair should be 1/4 inch long, or the length of a grain of rice. Try to grow it out for several weeks beforehand. Waxing will be less painful and effective if you wait for the hair to grow out.
Second Tip – Avoid waxing when your skin is sensitive. Sensitive skin does not make for a enjoyable waxing experience. A week after your menstrual cycle is the best time to wax. This is when your pain threshold is highest. If you have sunburned skin you should not be waxed and if you plan to go out in the sun after a wax remember, it is new skin and needs extra protection. If you get a sunburn, freshly waxed skin will be painful! Lastly, if you are on any type of topical creams prescribed by a dermatologist tell your esthetician, as this can affect your skin sensitivity.
Third Tip – Do not wax for the first time right before a special event. Avoid scheduling an appointment right before a special occasion. It’s good to try waxing for the first time one to two weeks before a special event so you know what to expect. Skin can react badly to waxing, especially the first time and you could experience bruising, irritation or redness.
Remember, if you’re unsure on what to avoid or what to expect, talk to your esthetician before the appointment. If this is your first time waxing, let your esthetician know. They can tell you how to prepare for your specific treatment.
