Facial Hair Removal – Yes, No, Maybe so?

Facial Hair Removal

We all have it, some more than others. Now, while I like my man with a nice thick beard, I by no means want a beard of my own! I personally am fuzzy like a peach and have always struggled with the age-old question, to remove or not to remove? I try to stick with removing the areas that are the most visible. For me this being my upper lip. This is something I wax or thread every 3-4 weeks. When I had long hair I would wear my hair in a high ponytail or bun on the regular and this made me very self-conscious of my long sideburns aka “chops” lol. But really, they were thick and long and even though they were blonde, I decided removal was the best route. Now that my hair is shorter and I wear it down, I have subtracted this from my beauty routine. One less thing to do ?

What hair removal services work best for me

As far as facial hair removal services choices, I offer two different types at my salon threading and waxing. Facial skin is delicate, so you’ll want to take extra care choosing the right removal technique for you. If you’re not sure just ask your skin care professional but here’s the rundown on what I offer.

WAXING: This is a common method. Most clients say it has minimal to medium discomfort, but really is different for everyone. It can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. I use a soft wax and remove the hairs using a fabric strip with ease. This is not for everyone. I would advise against waxing your face if you are using topical creams, have had any kind of recent facials/chemical peels or anyone that has sensitive skin. If you have a technician that is inexperienced and breaks the hair, it can lead to inflammation or ingrown hairs. Always read reviews before going to a new waxing salon and if you’re unsure ask your skin care provider. Your skin will thank you.

THREADING: This involves a double-sided cotton thread that is pulled super taut and rolls over the skin, pulling hairs out along the way. Think a much quicker form of tweezing. This on the other hand tends to be the more painful removal technique of the two but most clients say the more you do it, the less painful it becomes. It can also last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. This is great for people with thin skin or sensitive skin. Just make sure again, to find someone well trained in threading. If done incorrectly, the tread will cut the hairs instead of pulling out at the root, which will result in something like shaving.

I hope this helps when deciding if facial hair removal is right for you. Just remember, everyone has facial hair and it is there for a good reason, to protect your face! So, unless it’s such a problem that you feel like a wooly mammoth or something resembling a mountain man, I say just leave it! Or, just remove the hair in the places that bothers you the most.
